A big share of the homes I open up still run on their original 100 amp service, and plenty still carry panels that should have been retired decades ago. Here is how I handle the upgrade.
Modern loads are electric: EV charging, heat pump HVAC, induction cooking. A 200 amp service gives the house headroom for all of it. I handle the panel, the service equipment, the permit, and the utility coordination for the cutover.
These panel brands are flagged for breakers that can fail to trip under fault. Insurers increasingly refuse to write or renew policies on homes that still have them. If you have one, I show you what I am seeing and quote the replacement in writing.
Garage and ADU subpanels, dedicated circuits for EV chargers and appliances, and cleaning up overloaded circuits so breakers stop tripping.
Permit pulled, inspection passed, and labeling done properly. If you sell or refinance, the paperwork is there.
